Three stray dogs entered the enclosures and attacked birds in the Ventspils Deer Park. After police and veterinarians intervened, the animals were euthanized, stating that the situation posed a threat to people as well.

The incident occurred on Friday, May 22, at the Ventspils Deer Park. According to local government information, three large stray dogs entered the park. The animals attacked birds that were in the enclosure.

As a result of the attack, five ducks, two geese, and one turkey were killed.

After the incident, officers from the State and Municipal Police were called to the scene. The local government reported that the situation could pose a threat not only to the animals but also to visitors and park staff.

With the involvement of dog catchers and a practicing veterinarian, it was decided to euthanize all three animals on-site. Authorities claim that in the given situation, it was impossible to eliminate the threat to others quickly and safely in any other way.

Such cases in public parks and zoos are rare; however, freely roaming large dogs are considered one of the most dangerous threats to birds and small animals kept in enclosures.

The municipal police reminded that dog owners are required to maintain constant control over their animals. This is especially true in places where dogs may pose a danger to others, other animals, or public safety.

Additionally, owners are responsible for any damage caused.

The circumstances of the incident are still being investigated.
