In St. Petersburg, a former military man (in the photo) was sent to a pre-trial detention center for two months on charges of attempted murder.
According to the investigation, the man attacked his ex-girlfriend in her apartment — inflicted at least five knife wounds, fired a signal weapon, and doused her with acid.
It was also revealed that the man had been stalking his victim for a year prior.
Burns for a Loved One
On the evening of May 23, in St. Petersburg, in an apartment on Zheleznovodskaya Street, former military man Sergey M. doused his ex-girlfriend Anastasia with acid. According to law enforcement, the perpetrator stabbed her at least five times in the hands and legs, fired a signal pistol at her knee joint, and then poured acid on the girl, hitting areas where vital organs are located — tissues, vessels, nerves.
"The man did not carry out his criminal intent to kill due to circumstances beyond his control, thanks to the timely medical assistance provided to the victim," the press service of the St. Petersburg Investigative Committee reported.
On May 24, the Vasileostrovsky District Court sent Sergey M. to a pre-trial detention center for two months, charging him with attempted murder.
Anastasia was diagnosed with burns covering 32% of her body, including 2nd and 3rd degree burns, of which 18% are on her head, neck, chest, and limbs. Additionally, she suffered 4th degree chemical burns to the conjunctiva, 3rd degree burns to the cornea, and 1st degree burns to her eyelids.
Sergey M. objected to his detention, explaining to the court that he disagreed with the classification of his actions, claiming he had no intent to cause death.
The young man also complained to the court that he had not received the promised medical assistance — his face was injured, likely from acid splashes.
Without Regret
Even before his arrest, the suspect confessed to the brutal attack on Anastasia. In comments on a media outlet's post, he directly wrote from his social media account: "I didn’t want to resume anything with her! It’s horrible to restore something with a fallen one. Everything was done as planned. Even a bit over the top... Unfortunately."
On Sergey M.'s personal page, there are photos of tattoos and alcohol.
Anastasia shared a lot about her ended relationship with her ex on her social media. On November 29, 2025, she posted: "I got out of the relationship. Frankly — I’m tired of rehashing this topic. It has to end sometime."
Summarizing the year, she wrote, "I did what others wanted and said, not what I thought and wanted myself. I tried to meet someone else's expectations — and I didn’t meet them. I became unnecessary. I became the extreme. A stranger. Wild."
It turned out that even after the breakup, her ex continued to stalk her — writing, sending flowers and gifts. Anastasia asked him to leave her alone, but to no avail...
