In southern Portugal, two small children were left on the side of a remote dirt road. They were reportedly found screaming and crying.
The boys, aged 3 and 5, are believed to be brothers. A man discovered them near the village of Monte-Novo-do-Sul, about 60 kilometers southeast of Lisbon. "In the rearview mirror, I saw them coming towards me, screaming and crying," the man told Sicnoticias.
The boys then told the police that they were French and that their mother and stepfather had abandoned them.
Blindfold
The boys recount that their parents blindfolded them and told them to go look for something in the woods. They thought it was a game, but it soon became clear that their parents had left them.
The man who later found the brothers on the road says he quickly realized that they had been intentionally abandoned. Their backpacks contained spare clothes, a pack of cookies, two fruits, and a bottle of water.
The children are currently in the care of Portuguese child protection services. This is reported by the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã.
