Two Audi cars collided at one of the busiest intersections in Plavnieki on the morning before. According to eyewitnesses, one driver began a left turn while the other tried to make it through the intersection on a yellow traffic light.

Another accident occurred on Monday morning at the intersection of Lubanas, Andrei Sakharov, and Katlakalns streets in the Riga neighborhood of Plavnieki.

Two Audi cars collided. One of the drivers was making a left turn while the other was trying to cross the intersection on a yellow traffic light.

After the impact, the cars sustained serious damage, and local residents once again began to talk about the traffic organization problems in this area.

“I don’t know, there’s an accident here every week, every month,” said local resident Konstantin in an interview with the show Degpunktā (TV3).

According to residents of the area, even outside of peak hours, traffic jams quickly form at the intersection, especially when making a left turn from Andrei Sakharov Street onto Lubanas Street.

During one traffic light cycle, only a few cars manage to make this maneuver, causing many drivers to try to go at the last moment.

This is likely what happened on the day of the accident.

“Yellow light came on, I was driving, and that car suddenly started turning and crashed into my side,” said Audi driver Yana.

A mobile traffic control camera has already been installed at the intersection. Recordings from it are expected to help the police more accurately determine the circumstances of the collision and establish driver responsibility.

Plavnieki residents claim that accidents at this location occur regularly, and the traffic scheme has long been a source of dissatisfaction for drivers.

The left turn is considered particularly problematic, where drivers have to simultaneously monitor the intense oncoming traffic and the rapidly changing traffic light.

Such collisions at urban intersections often occur precisely at the moment of the traffic light change, when one driver is trying to complete the maneuver while another is trying to make it through before the red light.

The new accident in Plavnieki has once again drawn attention to one of the most problematic intersections in the area, where residents have long been waiting for a safer traffic organization.
