Promised repairs — took the money: a case of fraud for 70,000 euros

The prosecution has submitted a criminal case to the Riga City Court, in which a man is accused of fraud amounting to more than 70,000 euros by promising to carry out repair work, reports LETA.

The accused committed seven criminal acts between January and July 2025, resulting in the victims being defrauded of more than 70,000 euros.

In five cases, the accused offered assistance in carrying out property repairs, in one case — car repairs, and in another — the purchase of an apartment.

The victims, misled by the belief that the accused was a reliable business partner, verbally agreed to receive the service and handed him cash amounts that had been previously arranged.

The accused found his crime victims at various events, on social media, and also offered his services on the internet platform "Getapro."

The prosecution urges residents to be vigilant and carefully assess potential service providers — to check available information about the company or individual, to always sign a contract specifying the scope of services, deadlines, and payment procedures, and not to make large advance payments.
