The State Fire and Rescue Service received four calls related to soot fires in chimneys

Over the past 24 hours, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received four calls related to soot fires in the chimneys of residential houses, the LETA agency was informed by the SFRS.

In addition, on Saturday, February 21, one call was received regarding smoke that arose in premises due to improper operation of the heating system.

The State Fire and Rescue Service urges regular cleaning of chimneys, flues of stoves, and hearths from soot. The Service reminds that the chimneys of solid fuel devices should be cleaned once more annually during the heating season from November 1 to March 1.

On Saturday, February 21, at 10:28, a call was received in the Varve parish of Ventspils municipality, where a car accident occurred. Rescuers extracted a person from the vehicle and handed them over to medical personnel, as well as disconnected the battery terminals. At 10:48, work at the scene was completed.

Over the past 24 hours, the State Fire and Rescue Service received a total of 36 calls: eight for fire extinguishing, 22 for rescue operations, and six calls turned out to be false.
