Over the past day, the State Border Guard (SBG) identified 33 offenders at external borders and within the country, the LETA agency was informed by the service.

At the Ventspils port, during the profiling of vehicles and passengers of the ferry traveling to Sweden, a non-citizen of Latvia was detained for presenting border guards with a counterfeit Bulgarian identity card and a fake driver's license. A criminal process has been initiated regarding the use of false documents.

At the border control points of Terehova, Paternieki, and at Riga Airport, entry into Latvia was denied to three citizens of Oman and one citizen of Pakistan, as they could not justify the purpose and circumstances of their entry and stay in the country, as well as to two citizens of Russia for security reasons. All these individuals were returned to their countries of departure.

During immigration control activities within the country, a total of eight cases of violations of entry or stay rules were identified involving citizens of Algeria, Uzbekistan, the USA, Morocco, Ukraine, and China.

As reported, the government has extended the enhanced border protection regime with Belarus until June 30 of this year. The enhanced control regime is established in the Ludza region, Kraslava region, Aushgaldauga region, and the Kaunata parish of the Rezekne region.

Last year, the State Border Guard prevented 12,046 attempts to illegally cross the Belarusian-Latvian border. 31 illegal migrants were allowed to cross the border for humanitarian reasons.
