On January 21, the Security Police initiated the commencement of criminal prosecution before the prosecutor's office against a citizen of Latvia for financing the armed forces of the aggressor state Russia for the acquisition of military equipment, the LETA agency was informed by the service.
During the investigation, the Security Police established that this individual responded to a call from a contact person in Russia to provide financial resources for the purchase of drone suppression devices for Russian servicemen on the front lines in Ukraine.
The agency found that the suspect, using an acquaintance in Belarus as an intermediary, transferred financial resources to Russia, thereby supporting the armed forces of the aggressor state.
Criminal proceedings against this individual were initiated on November 25, 2025, in accordance with the Criminal Law article on the transfer of financial resources to a party in an armed conflict occurring outside the territory of Latvia, whose actions are directed against the territorial integrity and political independence of another state.
The Security Police detained this individual on December 2, 2025, and conducted procedural actions related to the criminal case at two associated locations in Rēzekne and Preiļi municipality. As a preventive measure, detention was applied to the suspect.
