The famous Spanish singer abused his status for inappropriate excesses.
Two women have come forward with allegations of sexual assault against Spanish singer Julio Iglesias, claiming that the incidents occurred while they were working as staff in his luxury homes in the Caribbean.
The allegations, published following a joint investigation by elDiario.es and Univision, concern events that allegedly took place in 2021, when Iglesias was 77 years old.
One of the women was 22 years old at the time.
According to the investigation's findings, the alleged incidents occurred in Iglesias's properties in Punta Cana and Lyford Cay.
Both women held positions that required them to live on the premises, and they stated that this created an atmosphere of dependency and control.
One of the accusers, known by the pseudonym Rebeca, worked as a domestic worker. She told the media that she was repeatedly summoned to Iglesias's bedroom late at night, and she could not refuse.
In her testimony, she claims that she was coerced into sexual encounters and subjected to physical, verbal, and psychological abuse.
She described her experience as one of dehumanization, stating that she was treated "like an object."
Rebeca also alleged that these meetings often took place in the presence of another senior staff member, and this claim, if confirmed, would raise further questions about the working conditions in the house. The second woman, named Laura, worked as a physiotherapist. She alleged that Iglesias kissed her without her consent and touched her breast against her will.
Laura also stated that during her employment, she was subjected to systematic insults, humiliation, and inappropriate behavior, describing what she characterized as an atmosphere of constant harassment and intimidation.
Both women told elDiario.es and Univision that they feared professional and personal repercussions if they spoke out at the time, citing Iglesias's wealth, influence, and the isolation of their workplaces. The journalists conducting the investigation stated that they repeatedly attempted to contact Iglesias and his legal representatives via email, phone, and written correspondence delivered to his residence, but received no response.
They also reported unsuccessful attempts to reach the person responsible for managing the property where some of the incidents allegedly occurred.
However, a former manager of the residence in Punta Cana, whom Rebeca identified as her first supervisor, categorically denied these allegations.
She called the accusations "nonsense" and stated that she feels only "gratitude, admiration, and respect" for Iglesias, describing him as a generous, respectful, and attentive man towards women.
At this stage, no criminal charges have been filed. Iglesias has not publicly commented on the allegations, and they remain unproven.
