Fake advertising materials and posts are circulating on social media using the name and photographs of the late husband of former Latvian president Vaira Vike-Freiberga — Imants Freibergs, with the aim of deceiving people and extorting money, reports tv3.
"These posts are not credible, our family has no connection to them. We ask that they not be spread and under no circumstances should any payments be made," stated Vaira Vike-Freiberga on social media.
The only official way to honor the memory of Imants Freibergs is through the Vitols Foundation.
The former president urges reporting fraudulent posts on Facebook and blocking profiles that spread them.
As previously reported, on January 1, 2026, the Latvian computer science scholar and husband of former Latvian president Vaira Vike-Freiberga, Imants Freibergs (03.12.1934 – 01.01.2026), passed away.
