On Tuesday, tram services on the first route in the Riga neighborhood of Imanta were suspended for an hour, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).
A female driver, crossing the intersection, did not notice the public transport approaching from the left and drove into its path. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the incident — the participants in the accident had to accept that they would arrive at their destination late.
The first tram resumed movement, but without passengers. An hour earlier, they had to leave the vehicle before reaching their destination because a car drove onto the tram tracks without ensuring safety. A collision occurred.
“ I noticed the tram too late. I was driving slowly; I don’t know why this happened. I saw it, but it was already too late,” the driver said.
Before the police arrived, both vehicles remained at the scene of the incident. The woman then moved her car to the roadside and inspected the aftermath of the accident — the tram's bumper was damaged, and the front of the Volkswagen was severely affected on the driver's side. Fortunately, none of the participants in the incident were injured.
“ I feel terrible about what happened, but I am not hurt. The impact was strong, yes,” the driver said.
Despite the damage to the car, the woman can continue her journey. However, she will have to cover the repair costs herself — there is no additional insurance for the car.
