The fire, which started from a Christmas wreath, destroyed a woman's apartment in the Livani region and put her life in danger. The apartment owner, in just socks and light clothing, stood on the fifth-floor balcony trying to attract the attention of those around her, but initially, no one took her cries seriously, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).

Behind the door adorned with a red ribbon is a completely burned-out apartment. The windows, from which tongues of flame were erupting, are now boarded up with particle boards. Residents of the building were awakened around 9 a.m. by loud sounds coming from both the apartment owner and sirens.

"She was screaming and saying that everything would explode. She was standing by the balcony railing. She was only wearing socks, a tank top, and pants," said a neighbor.

Firefighters entered the apartment on the fifth floor, extinguished the fire, and rescued the woman. There was no smoke detector installed in the premises, which may have contributed to the rapid spread of the flames. At the scene, firefighters faced difficulties – there was heavy smoke, and the fire quickly engulfed the apartment.

Before the rescuers arrived, four people evacuated from the building. Among them was Aivars, whose balcony is almost next to the burning apartment. He recounts that the woman’s loud behavior had long been familiar to those around, so people initially did not pay attention to what was happening.

"She is like this on ordinary days – cursing the government and other things. Everyone is used to it. This time, when a real problem arose, no one took her seriously. (Degpunktā: Was she standing while the flames approached?) Yes. It was terrifying… It seemed like how much longer she could just stand there. (Degpunktā: Did she have to stay on the balcony for long?) About five minutes," said the neighbor.

He also revealed the cause of the devastating fire – a Christmas wreath caught fire. After the rescue, the woman was handed over to medical personnel to determine the extent of her injuries.
