As a result of a fire in an outbuilding in the Ance parish of the Ventspils region, 40 hens perished, but eight were saved, the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPSS) reported to the LETA agency.
The call was received by rescuers at 19:38. An outbuilding was on fire over an area of 200 square meters. Work at this high-risk fire was completed shortly before midnight. Volunteer firefighters from the Ventspils region also participated in extinguishing the fire.
Meanwhile, in Riga, household items were burning in an apartment on the second floor of a five-story residential building, covering an area of two square meters. A person was rescued from the smoke-filled apartment. Five people evacuated the building before the arrival of the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPSS).
In the Gulbene region, the body of a deceased person was retrieved from the River Gauja and handed over to the State Police.
Over the past 24 hours, firefighters also responded to calls where soot was burning in the chimney of a residential house, a toaster, a chimney, paper, household items, household appliances, and in three cases — passenger cars.
The service received 51 calls: nine for fire extinguishing, 32 for rescue operations, and ten calls turned out to be false.
