Drunken Young Man Waved a Weapon in the Center of Daugavpils: Police 'Hands Are Tied' 0 8

Shortly before midnight, the municipal police of Daugavpils noticed a suspicious group gathered in one of the city's largest parks through surveillance cameras. The information was relayed to mobile patrols on duty in the city.

"A group of young people was in the central city park — at some point, colleagues noticed that one of the young men was waving an object resembling a weapon. Such events are immediately recorded. The information was passed on to the mobile patrol crews," said Andris Dunski, a representative of the Daugavpils municipal police.

The inspectors were informed of the young people's descriptions and their direction of movement, so within a few minutes, they were on their trail.

"These individuals were detained. They were checked, and in this particular case, it was established that one of them — a man of legal age — was in possession of a gas pistol. An aggravating circumstance was that the smell of alcohol was clearly noticeable. Therefore, of course, a decision was made to detain this individual. Representatives of the State Police arrived, and the person was handed over to them for further procedural actions," Dunski clarified.

During the document check, it was found that the 18-year-old young man had a permit for weapon possession, and the gas pistol was registered.

"State police officers measured the alcohol concentration in the exhaled air, and the individual was recorded with 0.4 promille. It should be noted that in this case, the level does not exceed 0.5 promille, as stipulated in the first part of Article 99 of the Law on the Circulation of Weapons," said State Police representative Julia Jurane.

Thus, despite the fact that the young people were in a public place with a weapon in hand, no violations were identified in the incident, and they were able to continue on their way.
