Last week, fraudsters swindled approximately half a million euros from residents

Last week, fraudsters swindled 460,937 euros from the residents of Latvia, the State Police reported to the LETA agency.

From November 24 to November 30, the State Police registered 271 cases of fraud. In 71 cases, residents lost money, while in 197 cases, the fraudsters' attempts did not result in financial damage to potential victims; in three cases, the damage caused is still unknown.

The majority of the funds were still stolen as a result of vishing, or false calls, where fraudsters impersonated employees of the State Police, mobile operators, the State Revenue Service, credit institutions, postal services, or social services. Last week, telephone scammers managed to swindle 303,931 euros, with the highest number of such cases again recorded in the Riga region - 189.
