Transmission of the disease can occur both through direct contact with an infected person and through contaminated surfaces.
In European countries, there has been a rapid spread of the drug-resistant and dangerous fungus Trichophyton indotineae. This is reported by the British newspaper The Sun.
"Trichophyton indotineae causes red, itchy rashes, primarily in the groin, on the thighs, and buttocks," warned infectious disease expert David Denning from the University of Manchester.
The disease is already being referred to as a super fungus. Over the past three years, the number of cases of Trichophyton indotineae infection in the UK has increased by 500%.
Transmission of the disease can occur both through direct contact with an infected person and through contaminated surfaces harboring the fungus.
Particular concern is raised by this pathogen's resistance to standard antifungal medications, which significantly complicates treatment. The disease manifests as ring-shaped spots that gradually spread across the body.
Statistical data in the UK is especially alarming — nearly 73% of patients had not left the country, which convincingly indicates the presence of resilient chains of infection transmission within the state. Cases of infection have already been reported in the USA, France, and Germany.
