Today, rescuers will continue the search for the car that sank yesterday evening in the Daugava in Riga, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reported to the LETA agency.
At 20:25, a call was received regarding the Daugava in Riga, where, according to initial information, a passenger car had entered the river.
Upon arriving at the scene, rescuers saw the passenger car sinking quickly and disappearing underwater. A sonar was used to survey the riverbed to establish a possible location of the car. During the underwater search operations, divers checked one of these locations; however, the car was not found. Due to the strong current and the darkness of the night, the search was suspended shortly before three o'clock in the morning. The search operations will continue today during daylight hours.
In the past 24 hours, firefighters and rescuers also responded to calls related to fires in a cargo van, flooring, an electric meter, a sauna, garbage, soot in the chimney of a residential building, passenger cars, a garden house, as well as unattended food that had burned.
In total, over the past 24 hours, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received 39 calls — 13 for fire extinguishing, 16 for rescue operations, and ten calls turned out to be false.
