Lithuanian authorities imposed temporary airspace restrictions over Vilnius Airport on Thursday evening. This was reported by the National Crisis Center of Lithuania.
Air traffic at Vilnius Airport was temporarily suspended at around 18:38 local time.
"According to preliminary information, the decision to restrict airspace was made due to the flights of a balloon (or balloons) towards Vilnius Airport," the statement said.
As a result, some flights at Vilnius Airport were delayed, and at least one plane was diverted to Riga.
Lithuania has been experiencing an influx of balloons in recent weeks, which smugglers are launching from Belarusian territory. In response, the Lithuanian government decided to close border crossing points with Belarus until November 30. However, it later changed its mind and reopened them yesterday.
