The prosecutor's office has submitted a criminal case against two citizens of Uzbekistan accused of torturing a swan in Carnikava to the Riga District Court.
According to the indictment, on March 30, 2025, both men in Carnikava, by the River Gauja, fed a swan with food, luring it out of the water. After that, one of the defendants grabbed the bird by its wings and laid it on the ground, the prosecutor's office reported. The man then held the swan with one hand while with the other he broke its neck and punched it in the head.
When the swan stopped resisting, the second defendant opened and held a black garbage bag into which the bird was placed. After that, the bag with the swan was taken to the car, placed in the trunk, and both defendants left the scene together.
As previously reported, on March 31, the police received a signal from local residents that on March 30 in Carnikava, two men were cruelly treating a swan, and this was happening in the presence of three minors.
Law enforcement officers conducted operational actions and detained men born in 1984 and 1993.
The detainees then stated that they were "celebrating the end of Lent" and took the swan "for fun." Later, they claimed, they drove to Riga and released the swan by the roadside.
