The Riga City Council will appeal to the Ministry of Education with a request to conduct an unscheduled, earlier evaluation of the performance of the principal of Riga Secondary School Natalia Draudzini — Maris Zageris, the Riga municipality reported.
According to regulatory requirements, the performance evaluation of school principals is conducted every two years; however, in this case, the local government is requesting an earlier review to objectively assess the principal's professional activities and ensure the quality of the school's work.
As previously reported by Latvijas Radio, due to a chaotic and unfair management style, at least 20 teachers have resigned from the school in the past year.
Teachers and students told the radio station that due to the lack of educators, some classes have not been held for a long time. According to them, problems began in August 2024 when Zageris became the principal. He is accused of being unable to work with the staff, organize the educational process, and of unfair treatment, while his deputy is criticized for rudeness.
One of the teachers still working at the school informed Latvijas Radio that dissatisfied individuals had approached the education officials of the Riga municipality, but the situation could not be changed.
Latvijas Radio reached out to the principal for a comment on the situation, but Zageris repeatedly evaded the conversation.
