Pathologists from Vladivostok will be prosecuted for desecration of a body after they sewed a "magical" bundle containing various items into the chest of the deceased.
An unknown individual brought a bag containing three wax figures, to which photographs were glued, to the former employees of the city forensic bureau. Needles were stuck into the photos, and the hands and legs of the figures were tied with shoelaces and three plates with hieroglyphs. The owner of the bag asked the pathologists to hide the bundle inside the body, and they agreed, cutting open the deceased's chest and placing the bundle inside.
The secret was revealed during embalming. A criminal case was opened against the morgue employees on charges of committing a crime under paragraph "a" of part 2 of Article 244 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Desecration of the bodies of the deceased and places of their burial).
Forensic expert Mikhail Ignatov told the media why morgue employees in Vladivostok might have sewn a voodoo doll into the body of a deceased person.
According to him, such actions could be related to a "curse" ritual. It is believed that this is how a curse is placed on death.
In witchcraft traditions, there is a belief that if photographs of living people are placed next to the body of the deceased, they may soon also die.
The expert noted that morgue workers could have acted on someone's order. However, another possibility is that one of the employees was in an inadequate state and decided to sew the doll into the body.
