Last night in Riga, in the Mežaparks district, rescuers helped a man escape from the reeds in a marshy area, the LETA agency reported from the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).
Half an hour after midnight, the service received information that a person needed help on a marshy clearing on Ezermalas Street. The search and rescue efforts were complicated by reeds over two meters high and a high water level in the field. Rescuers found the man and handed him over to the Emergency Medical Service (EMS). The rescue operation lasted about two hours.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday at 11:46, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) personnel were dispatched to Ezerņieki in the Kraslava region, to the scene of an accident involving a truck with a person trapped inside. The victim was extracted from the vehicle and handed over to EMS medics.
As a result of the accident, the vehicle's fuel tank was damaged, leading to a fuel leak. Rescuers disconnected the vehicle's battery terminals, contained the fuel leak, and cleared the roadway. Work at the scene was completed around 18:00.
In the past 24 hours, from 6:30 on Wednesday to 6:30 on Thursday, EMS teams were dispatched for 13 rescue operations, according to the service's statistics.
