In the first quarter, prices increased for hundreds of medicines

The turnover of Latvian wholesale enterprises selling medicines in the first quarter of this year amounted to 226.57 million euros excluding value-added tax, which is 9.1% more than in the same period of 2025, according to data from the State Agency of Medicines (SAM).

In turn, compared to the fourth quarter of 2025, the turnover of wholesale companies selling medicines increased by 3.4%.

Outside Latvia, in the first quarter of 2026, 28 wholesale companies selling medicines sold 598 medications included in the Latvian Register of Medicines, including 308 reimbursable medicines, for a total of 27.5 million euros, which is 3.2% more than in the previous quarter.

In the first quarter of this year, price increases were announced for 232 medicines, while prices for 92 medicinal products were reduced.

The data was obtained from 83 licensed companies engaged in the wholesale trade of medicines operating in Latvia.

In the first quarter of 2025, the turnover of wholesale companies trading in medicines in Latvia amounted to 207.67 million euros.
