As of April 21, holders of Mastercard cards issued by Belarusian Alfa-Bank will not be able to use them in the European Union, as well as in the United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. This was reported by the press service of the credit organization on April 17.

The restrictions will affect all operations: cash withdrawals at ATMs, payments for goods and services in stores and online, as well as transfers from card to card through local services, the bank clarified.

Alfa-Bank advised clients in these countries, including Latvia, to withdraw money in any ATM or transfer it to a card from another bank in advance.

The reason for the new restrictions has not been officially stated. However, earlier Visa explained a similar ban on the use of cards from Alfa-Bank, Belgazprombank, and Belagroprombank as sanctions measures.

Unlike Russia, where Visa and Mastercard from local banks stopped working abroad after the payment systems withdrew, these systems continue to function in Belarus. However, cards issued by Belarusian banks are increasingly facing restrictions.
