In Latvia, annual inflation in March was higher than the average level in the European Union (EU) and the eurozone, according to data published on Thursday by the EU statistical office "Eurostat," reports LETA.
Annual inflation in Latvia, like in Greece and Spain, was 3.4% in March.
Consumer prices increased year-on-year in March across all EU countries.
The lowest inflation last month was recorded in Denmark (1%), Sweden, Cyprus, and the Czech Republic (all at 1.5%), as well as in Italy (1.6%).
In contrast, the highest annual inflation was observed in Romania (9%), Croatia (4.6%), Lithuania (4.4%), and Luxembourg (3.8%). In Estonia, annual inflation was 3.5%.
On average, annual inflation in the EU in March was 2.8%, while in the eurozone it was 2.6%.
Compared to the previous month—February—consumer prices in March rose by 1.1% in the EU and by 1.3% in the eurozone.
In Latvia, compared to February, consumer prices increased by 1.9% in March. Monthly inflation was recorded in 23 EU countries, with the highest being in Portugal (+2.3%). Monthly deflation was recorded only in Sweden (-0.7%), while in Estonia, Denmark, and Slovakia, consumer prices remained unchanged. In Lithuania, consumer prices rose by 1.5%.
"Eurostat" calculates inflation according to the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) used in the EU.
