Italian fashion designer Stefano Gabbana has left his position as chairman of the board of the fashion house Dolce & Gabbana, which he co-founded with Domenico Dolce, according to a company statement for regulators.
63-year-old Gabbana stepped down at the end of 2025. Since January, the company's board of directors has been headed by Domenico Dolce's brother Alfonso, the current CEO.
Dolce & Gabbana stated that Gabbana's departure from this position is due to the "natural evolution of the company's organizational structure and management system." "These changes do not affect the creative activities of Stefano Gabbana," the statement said.
Bloomberg reports, citing sources, that Gabbana is considering various options regarding his stake in Dolce & Gabbana, which amounts to about 40%.
The company has faced difficulties due to a prolonged downturn in the luxury goods segment, and uncertainty regarding the consequences of the war in the Middle East exacerbates the situation. This pressure negatively impacts its financial performance and complicates compliance with debt obligations.
Dolce & Gabbana is entering a new round of negotiations with creditors regarding the refinancing of a debt of 450 million euros, Bloomberg sources report.
Dolce and Gabbana founded the company in 1985 and continue to oversee its creative aspect.
