As reported, a law limiting fuel price increases came into effect on April 1, which provides temporary measures to reduce the impact of rising prices on the economy and the population.
The law establishes a temporary reduction in the excise tax on diesel fuel from the previous 467 euros to 396 euros per 1000 liters. For marked diesel fuel used in agriculture, the excise tax rate is set at 21 euros per 1000 liters.
The reduced rates will apply until June 30.
The Latvian Association of Fuel Traders explained that the reduction in the excise tax is already reflected in prices; however, it is offset by another increase in the purchase price of fuel according to the quotes from S&P Global Platts.
As reported, the record average price of 95-octane gasoline in Latvia was broken in 2022 during the week from June 14 to June 20, when the average price of 95-octane gasoline was 2.104 euros per liter, and the record average price of diesel fuel was broken from June 21 to June 27, reaching 2.108 euros per liter.
The European Commission collects data from participating countries on average fuel prices weekly.
