Regional Disparity Persists: Latgale Leads in Unemployment

The registered unemployment rate in Latvia at the end of February this year, as well as the previous month, was 5.2% of the economically active population, according to information published by the State Employment Agency (SEA), writes LETA.

At the end of February 2026, the State Employment Agency (SEA) registered a total of 45,761 unemployed individuals, which is 32 more than the previous month when 45,729 unemployed were registered at the agency.

The lowest registered unemployment rate at the end of February was still in the Riga region — 3.8% of the economically active population, which is 0.1 percentage points lower than the previous month, while the highest registered unemployment rate remained in the Latgale region — 10.6%, which is 0.1 percentage points higher than the previous month.

In Kurzeme, the registered unemployment rate in February remained unchanged and at the end of the month still stood at 5.8% of the economically active population.

In Zemgale, the registered unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percentage points in February and at the end of the month was 5.3% of the economically active population, while in Vidzeme, the registered unemployment rate remained unchanged and at the end of February was 5% of the economically active population.

At the end of 2025, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5% of the economically active population.
