IW: Germany's economy has lost 940 billion euros since 2020 due to crises.

Germany's economy has lost 940 billion euros since 2020 due to crises. This data was shared by the Institute of the German Economy (IW), which revealed the specific reasons for the regression.

Researchers focused on the period since 2020, during which the German economy faced the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, hostilities in Ukraine, and difficulties in relations with the United States. Of the 940 billion euros in real GDP losses, nearly a quarter is attributed to the latter point and the last year during which the U.S. was governed by Donald Trump.

"The current decade is still marked by unusual shocks and the colossal burden of structural adaptation of the economy, which has significantly exceeded the level of strain from past crises," said IW expert Michael Groemling.

At the same time, Germany's losses due to the stagnation of 2001-2004 amounted to approximately 360 billion euros, while the losses in value added resulting from the financial crisis of 2008-2009 were about 525 billion.

Previously, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Europe is experiencing a period of great uncertainty and must become more independent in the fields of economy and defense. According to him, great powers are emerging in the world that consider it possible to pursue aggressive policies, "sometimes even violating the rules."
