American entrepreneur Elon Musk expressed the possibility of acquiring the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair amid an escalating conflict with its CEO Michael O'Leary, LETA reports citing AFP.
On the platform X owned by Musk, he launched a poll asking users for their opinion on whether he should buy Ryanair. More than 900,000 people participated in the voting.
Additionally, Musk has been hinting at the possibility of purchasing Ryanair for several days.
He also called for O'Leary to be fired, calling him a "real idiot."
The disagreements between them arose after O'Leary's interview with the Irish radio station Newstalk.
In the interview, the head of Ryanair ruled out the possibility of using Starlink satellite communication, developed by Musk's space company SpaceX, to provide wireless internet on board the aircraft. According to him, implementing such a system would cost $250 million a year, as the antennas required for the system would increase the aerodynamic drag of the aircraft and, consequently, fuel consumption.
He also noted that Ryanair passengers do not want to pay for internet service.
"Elon Musk knows nothing about flying and air resistance. Honestly, I wouldn't pay any attention to what he publishes in his dump that he calls X," O'Leary stated.
"He is an idiot. Very rich, but still an idiot," he added.
