Due to the deterioration of relations with Russia, the demand for products from its neighbor has unexpectedly increased.
The Finnish-Norwegian defense company Patria has signed the largest contract in its history: the German parliament approved an order for Patria 6x6 armored personnel carriers worth over two billion euros, with an option included. The deal involves the delivery of 876 vehicles as part of the European CAVS project.
Deliveries will begin in 2026, and full production will be established in Germany by 2028. Most of the vehicles will be manufactured at German plants.
Why did Germany choose armored vehicles from Patria?
"We had the right product at the right time. It is the only vehicle with the most modern technology available on the global market. Moreover, it has already been tested and is in practical use. This is not a concept or a prototype, but a fully operational vehicle," explains Esa Rautalinko, CEO of Patria.
Rautalinko also noted that key factors included the modernity of the technology, an excellent price-performance ratio, and the involvement of German industry in the project. According to him, the contract strengthens trust in Finnish technology and enhances Finland's role as a partner for Germany in defense cooperation.
The Patria 6×6 is primarily designed for troop transport but can also be configured for other purposes. The basic platform can be adapted to meet various user requirements with numerous additional features, such as swimming systems, winches, enhanced armor protection, and a variety of weapon systems.
The vehicle's layout provides for the placement of the driver and commander at the front, the engine compartment behind the driver, and the rear compartment for troops and special equipment.
The Patria 6×6 chassis is based on the design and components of the Patria AMV armored personnel carrier. The expected service life is over 30 years.
