The Rezekne concert hall "Gors" is an important center of Latvian and Latgalian identity and must remain under public management, stated the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, on social media.
The President emphasized that he discussed this issue and possible models for further action with the Minister of Culture.
It was previously reported that after an audit, the Rezekne municipality is considering the possibility of transforming the cultural center with the loud name "Latgale Embassy Gors" into an institution or choosing another form of management.
Local authorities note that the municipality allocates a subsidy from its budget to "Gors" year after year, "expecting in return both quality and the work of the organization itself aimed at reducing the subsidy and increasing revenues." However, this is not happening, as the audit showed.
Thus, the turnover of the company managing the cultural center in 2024 amounted to 891,763 euros, while losses reached 19,002 euros.
Currently, both the existing capital society model and alternatives are being considered — the status of an institution or another form of management, the municipality explained. In particular, the possibility of renting out the premises of "Gors" is not excluded, so that a private company could organize events in the concert hall.
It should be noted that the state invested 8.3 million euros in the creation of "Gors."
