Platinum has risen to its highest level since 2008 due to concerns about shortages.

The price of platinum on Thursday, December 18, nearly reached two thousand dollars per troy ounce, marking its highest level since the beginning of the century, specifically since 2008.

At the time of writing, the price of the precious metal had risen by 1.73 percent to $1,971.65 per ounce.

Since the beginning of the year, it has increased by 2.2 times. Just the day before, palladium surpassed the $1,900 per ounce mark, reaching its highest level since the summer of 2011.

The precious metal is setting price records amid expectations of a loosening of monetary policy in the U.S. and concerns about shortages. These factors are also driving up prices for silver and palladium, which is increasing by 3.3 percent to a three-year high of $1,777 per ounce.
