The Consumer Rights Protection Centre (CRPC) has allowed the electric bicycle rental operator "Ride Mobility" ("Ride") to continue providing services, as reported on the center's website.
The Consumer Rights Protection Centre (CRPC) asserts that "Ride" has implemented the necessary measures to verify the identity and age of customers, as well as to ensure that services are unavailable to minors.
Previously, the CRPC threatened rental operators with fines of up to 10,000 euros. Today's announcement regarding the fine does not mention anything.
Earlier, the CRPC demanded the suspension of "Ride" services in connection with the tragedy in Imanta, where two girls riding a "Ride" electric bicycle were killed after being hit by a train at a railway crossing.
Edgars Jakobsons, the executive director of "Ride," informed the LETA agency that starting Monday, October 20, the company has implemented additional safety measures to prevent users who have not reached the appropriate age from using "Ride" services.
On Monday, October 20, the center received an official letter from "Ride" about the implementation of an age verification tool; however, the information provided was insufficient, so the company was instructed to provide evidence of the implementation of such verification by Thursday, October 23.
The center has also begun evaluating other applications offering electric mobility rentals.
