The Baltic States - Among the Largest Exporters to Russia Last Year

In terms of income from exports to Russia per capita, Estonia ranked third in the world in 2024 (693 euros per person), while Latvia ranked fourth (557 euros per person), reports Dienas Bizness.

In 2024, Latvia's income from exports to Russia per capita was 7.3 times higher than that of China.

Data on the foreign trade of all countries in the world is collected and published by an international organization known as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). However, some UN member states do not cooperate with it and do not provide their data, such as North Korea. Nevertheless, if all other countries provide statistics on their trade with North Korea, it is possible to calculate its exports and imports across all commodity groups using "mirror data," that is, data submitted by other countries.

Since 2022, information on Russia's foreign trade can only be obtained from statistics submitted by other UNCTAD member countries. It is known that 50% of all exports to Russia come from China (over 100 billion euros in both 2023 and 2024), but this accounts for only about 3% of China's total exports. For Russia, imports from China are extremely important, but for China, exports to Russia are not crucial.

The absolute leader in exports to Russia in 2024 was Belarus - by rough estimates, its income from this export was at least 2000 euros per capita. Armenia came in second (949 euros), Estonia third (693 euros), Latvia fourth (557 euros), and Kazakhstan fifth (428 euros). The top ten also included the UAE (396 euros), Switzerland (259 euros), Lithuania (220 euros), Belgium (202 euros), and Hong Kong (185 euros). Significant export revenues to Russia were also received by Georgia (164 euros), Serbia (135 euros), Ireland (134 euros), the Netherlands (133 euros), Kyrgyzstan (125 euros), Uzbekistan (114 euros), Austria (108 euros), Azerbaijan (107 euros), and Hungary (101 euros).
