Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary criticized the EU for its inability to protect European airports and stated that drones disrupting aviation operations should be shot down. He made this statement in an interview with Politico.
"Why aren't we shooting down these drones?" O'Leary asked.
"Our operations were disrupted three weeks ago when drones flew over Poland, and Polish airports were closed for four hours. Last week, Danish airports were closed for about two hours. This is destructive, and we are calling for action," he said.
O'Leary also believes that the proposed 'drone wall' in the EU is not a solution. The airline's chief expressed skepticism about the plans of EU leaders and trust in them.
"I don't trust European leaders who sit, drink tea and eat cookies. If you can't even protect flights over France, what are the chances that they will protect us from Russia?" he added, referring to the cancellation of flights over France during air traffic controller strikes in the country.
According to O'Leary, he also does not trust European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. "She is incapable of anything, and she should resign," he said.
