Heavyweight champion in IBF, WBA, and WBC Oleksandr Usyk announced that he is making his titles vacant for the "next in line" to compete for them.
Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk has vacated all of his championship titles. As the 39-year-old athlete explains in a video posted on social media platform Instagram on Friday, June 26, he wants to give the opportunity to compete for these titles to "those who are next in line."
At the same time, Usyk emphasized that he is not leaving the sport and will have a "last dance." This likely refers to another fight that could be a farewell for the Ukrainian.
German Agit Kabayel May Receive Full WBC Championship Title
Boxer Oleksandr Usyk holds championship titles from the International Boxing Federation (IBF), the World Boxing Association (WBA), and the World Boxing Council (WBC) in the heavyweight division.
On May 23, he defended his WBC championship title by defeating Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven by technical knockout in the 11th round.
As a result of Usyk's decision, German Agit Kabayel, who is currently the interim WBC champion, may now receive the full WBC championship title. He was supposed to be Usyk's next opponent as per the organization's requirements. Now the German may receive the title without a fight or compete for the vacated belt, reports "Deutsche Welle."
