Ukraine wants to receive an additional $20 billion from its allies to secure its advantage over Russia on the battlefield. This is reported by Politico, citing a statement from a senior official in the Ministry of Defense.
"Everyone sees that Russia is burning, and we want it to burn even more, but for that we need funding," he said.
The publication notes that the request for funding will be voiced on June 18 at the next meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
According to sources, this issue was also raised by Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and other government representatives during a series of meetings with representatives from Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Canada.
According to a source from the publication, each ally will be asked to allocate between $2 billion and $6 billion to reach a target of $20 billion, "this can be both aid and loans."
The issue of assistance to Ukraine will be one of the key topics at the NATO leaders' summit in Ankara in July, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be present.
How Ukraine Will Use the Funds
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, partner countries have already committed to providing military assistance worth $38 billion this year. If an additional $20 billion is allocated, Ukraine will direct these funds towards air defense, increasing contributions to the PURL program, under which allies purchase weapons for Ukraine from the U.S., as well as acquiring additional drones, ammunition, electronic warfare equipment, long-range systems, and direct purchases from Ukrainian defense companies.
The goal is to use these funds to continue increasingly destructive attacks by Ukraine on Russia.
A Ukrainian official noted that the support of key allies, such as Germany, Norway, and the Netherlands, has helped change the dynamics of the war. At the same time, Ukraine wants to continue ramping up its resistance against Russia before Moscow can redistribute forces in its favor.
"The window of opportunity is gradually closing," warned a senior official. "Russia is acting quickly and innovatively. And if we give it time to adapt again, we may miss the only real chance to end this war through genuine negotiations. And if Russia develops its own drones for mid-course strikes, it will be a disaster for us."
Strikes on Russia - News
According to the commander of the UAV Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Robert Brovdi (Madyar), Ukraine is seriously implementing a plan to isolate occupied Crimea. According to Robert Brovdi, due to the campaign of Ukrainian strikes over the past month, traffic on the road connecting Rostov, Mariupol, Melitopol, and Crimea has decreased by more than two-thirds. Madyar is convinced that within the next month, Ukraine will fully control this road.
Ukrainian defense forces have delivered critical strikes on the Chongar Bridge, destroying it down to the supports, and also destroyed the crossing in Armyansk. This completely disrupted Russian land logistics via the "Novorossiya" highway. This route is critically important for Russia, as it remains the main land corridor bypassing the Kerch Bridge to occupied Crimea.
