Tusk Demands a Seat at the Negotiating Table: Poland Will Not Recognize Decisions on Ukraine Without Its Participation

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Warsaw must participate in any possible negotiations between the West and Russia regarding the war in Ukraine. According to him, decisions made without Poland's participation will not be binding for the country.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk believes that Warsaw should participate in any potential negotiations with Russia regarding Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters.

"I am very cautious about the ideas being voiced in Western Europe regarding the swift initiation of dialogue or negotiations with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin about Ukraine," said the head of the Polish government.

Tusk added that he discussed this topic with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. According to him, she is also dissatisfied that some of Ukraine's allies may be left out of the negotiation formats. The politician emphasized that any decisions or agreements made without Warsaw's participation will not be binding for Poland.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has stated that he is ready to act as a negotiator between the EU and Russia. The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has also offered herself for this role. Several German politicians have been mentioned as potential mediators: Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Gerhard Schröder, and Angela Merkel.

Amid growing discussions about a possible resumption of contacts with Moscow, disagreements regarding the format of future negotiations are intensifying within Europe. Poland and several other allies of Ukraine insist that issues of European security cannot be resolved by a narrow circle of states without considering the interests of countries directly affected by the consequences of the war.
