Китай объявил о начале специальной морской операции к востоку от Тайваня.

China has announced the start of a special maritime operation east of Taiwan, calling it a response to the actions of Japan and the Philippines, who intend to negotiate maritime zone delimitation. This new step by Beijing is another episode in the growing confrontation in the Asia-Pacific region.

On Saturday, June 6, China announced the start of a special maritime operation in the waters east of Taiwan, sharply escalating its response to recent agreements between Japan and the Philippines. The catalyst for Beijing's actions was Tokyo and Manila's decision to begin negotiations on maritime boundary delimitation and to expand security cooperation in areas that China considers within its strategic interests. This was reported by Bloomberg.

The operation is being conducted by the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China under the name "Special Operation for Ensuring Compliance with Maritime Traffic Rules."

According to the state agency Xinhua, its main task is to exercise maritime administrative jurisdiction, control shipping, and protect China's national interests in the region.

Beijing emphasizes that Japan and the Philippines' decision to begin negotiations on maritime delimitation affects areas east of Taiwan, where the interests of several states intersect. The Chinese side stated that Tokyo and Manila's actions "seriously violate territorial sovereignty, as well as the maritime rights and interests of the People's Republic of China."

Background of the Conflict The current tension is a continuation of processes that began after the meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaiti and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the end of May 2026. Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in maritime security and coordinate actions in the region.

Both countries have repeatedly expressed support for maintaining stability around Taiwan, which has caused discontent in Beijing.

The President of the Philippines previously stated that in the event of an armed conflict around Taiwan, his country could become directly involved due to its geographical proximity to the island.

In turn, the head of the Japanese government, Sanae Takaiti, noted that a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan would pose a serious threat to Japan's security and may require a response from Tokyo.

What Forces China Deployed To conduct the operation, Chinese authorities involved several agencies and regional structures:

• maritime security units from Fujian Province;

• relevant services from Guangdong Province;

• coast guard and control structures in the East China Sea;

• shipping security services and rescue units.

The current operation is a continuation of a series of demonstrative actions by China in the Taiwan area. Earlier, on June 1, the Chinese coast guard conducted large-scale patrolling east of the island, emphasizing Beijing's disagreement with the activities of neighboring states in the region.

The start of the new maritime operation indicates that China intends to respond firmly to any steps it considers encroachments on its interests around Taiwan. Against the backdrop of strengthening cooperation between Japan, the Philippines, and the United States, the situation in the region remains one of the most tense points in global politics.
