On the night of Wednesday, Ukrainian drones attacked the Tambov region of Russia. According to Russian and Ukrainian sources, a fire broke out at the "Progress" plant, which produces equipment for aviation and rocket technology.
One of the targets of the nighttime drone attack on Russian territory was the "Progress" plant in the city of Michurinsk, Tambov region. According to Ukrainian media, a fire broke out at the facility following the strike.
The plant specializes in the production of equipment and control systems for aviation and rocket technology, and therefore is classified as part of the Russian defense industry complex.
The Telegram channel Astra reported that it conducted geolocation of videos published by eyewitnesses after the attack. According to the analysis results, the footage indeed captured a fire at the "Progress" plant.
There is currently no official information regarding the extent of the damage to the facility.
At the same time, reports of drone strikes were coming in from other regions of Russia. Authorities in Moscow and St. Petersburg also informed about the air threat and the operation of air defense systems. Due to the situation, temporary restrictions were imposed on the operations of several airports.
According to Astra, a fire may have occurred at an oil terminal in the Leningrad region following the drone attack. However, there was no official confirmation of this information at the time of publication.
The attack occurred just a few hours before the start of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum — one of the main annual events in Russia. The speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the forum is scheduled for the coming days.
In recent months, drone strikes on targets deep within Russian territory have been happening more frequently. Among the targets are regularly defense industry enterprises, energy facilities, and transportation infrastructure.
Against this backdrop, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned the day before about the possibility of new massive Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities. The previous major attack resulted in numerous casualties and destruction in Kyiv and Dnipro, where more than twenty people died and over a hundred were injured.
Information about the consequences of the nighttime attack on Russian facilities is still being clarified.
