Kyiv announced "good contacts" with Washington and hopes to resume a full-fledged diplomatic format with the participation of European countries in the coming weeks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Ukrainian side maintains "good contacts" with the United States regarding both security issues and diplomatic negotiations with Russia. He made this announcement in his evening address on May 20, as reported by bb.lv.
According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian team has maintained good contacts with the American side - both on security cooperation issues and on diplomacy with the Russians.
"If we manage to return to substantive trilateral communication in these weeks and if we can involve Europeans, it will be the right outcome," the president stated.
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is ready for the appropriate steps.
"I expect that our partners will also be ready and that the Russians will not hide," he added.
Recall that the first round of trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia took place on January 24 in Abu Dhabi - according to an informed source from RBC-Ukraine, it ended "with constructiveness."
In February, the second round took place in Abu Dhabi, after which the parties met in Geneva. Peace negotiations have taken a back seat due to the U.S.-Iran conflict - the positions of the parties regarding the Donetsk region remain incompatible.
On May 7, NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov held a meeting in the U.S. with Trump's special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner - the key topic was the humanitarian track and the activation of the diplomatic process.
In the editorial's opinion, Volodymyr Zelensky's statement shows that Kyiv is trying to bring international negotiations back to a broader format with the participation of Europe.
