According to Leipzig Fire Chief Axel Schuh, in addition to the deceased and seriously injured, another 20 people were affected.
The Prosecutor's Office has Launched an Investigation
The suspect in the attack is a 33-year-old German citizen, said Saxony's Interior Minister Armin Schuster. The driver, suspected of the incident in Leipzig, surrendered without resistance. "We detained the perpetrator inside the vehicle," said Leipzig Police Chief Rene Demmler.
The Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation on suspicion of murdering two people and attempting to murder at least two others. The investigation assumes that this was a deliberate attack, the prosecutor stated. According to her office, there is no evidence of possible accomplices to the crime.
