Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that Latvia and Lithuania refused to allow his plane to fly to Moscow on May 9

Latvia and Lithuania will not allow Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's plane to fly over their territory to participate in the Victory Day celebrations, which will be held in Moscow.

"Lithuania and Latvia have already informed us that they will not allow us to fly through their territory on our way to Moscow," Fico said in a video address he published on his Facebook page.*

Fico promised to find an alternative route for the flight to Moscow. A similar situation occurred in 2025 when the Baltic countries refused to let Fico's plane fly to Russia.

"I hope to be able to lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Red Army in Moscow," the Slovak Prime Minister noted.

He also mentioned that in the coming months he would participate in events marking the 82nd anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy and the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Earlier, Fico thanked Soviet soldiers for the liberation of Slovakia.
