With nearly 67% of the votes counted, Viktor Orban's "Fidesz" party is trailing behind the "Tisa" party of opposition leader Peter Madjar in the parliamentary elections in Hungary. "Tisa" currently holds a constitutional majority.

The "Tisa" party of opposition leader Peter Madjar is leading in the parliamentary elections in Hungary with 66.69% of the votes counted, according to data published on the website of the National Election Office (NVI).

According to this information, "Tisa" is receiving 137 seats in parliament, while the "Fidesz" party of current Prime Minister Viktor Orban and its ally, the Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP), is receiving 55 seats. The far-right movement "Our Homeland" is also projected to gain seven more seats. Thus, "Tisa" currently holds more than two-thirds of the seats in parliament, which means a constitutional majority.

Madjar: Orban Congratulated Me on Victory

The leader of the opposition "Tisa" party, Madjar, reported that Orban has already congratulated him on his victory in the record turnout elections. "Prime Minister Viktor Orban just called to congratulate us on our victory," the politician wrote on his page on X. Supporters of "Tisa" are already celebrating their victory in the parliamentary elections in Budapest, reported a correspondent from "Deutsche Welle."

Orban delivered a speech to supporters of "Fidesz" in the Hungarian capital. "I congratulated the winning party. We will serve the Hungarian people and our homeland, even while in opposition," said the current Prime Minister.

Confrontation Between Orban and Madjar

As we have previously reported, 62-year-old Orban has been in power since 2010. In this election, for the first time, there is an opposition candidate capable of winning - 45-year-old Madjar. He was previously a member of the youth wing of "Fidesz" and has led the "Tisa" party for only two years.

Among the issues that dissatisfied citizens may point to regarding Orban's government are the poor state of public infrastructure, the healthcare and education systems, as well as corruption. Madjar, for his part, intends to fight corruption vigorously, implement "systemic changes," and present a new constitution. In addition, he advocates for distancing Hungary from Russia and returning the EU member country as a reliable NATO ally, explains "Deutsche Welle."
