"Hezbollah" and Israel Continue Mutual Attacks

On Saturday, mutual attacks between the Israeli army and the Lebanese Shiite terrorist group "Hezbollah" continue, reports LETA citing DPA.

Early in the morning, Israeli airstrikes occurred in the Nabatieh area in the south of the country, reports the Lebanese state news agency. As a result of the strike, a residential building was destroyed, and three people were killed.

Attacks also took place in other southern areas.

The Israel Defense Forces stated that they continue to prevent attacks by "Hezbollah" and published video footage of strikes on the group's rocket launchers that were destroyed, as well as on militants who were targeted after launching rockets at Israel. In turn, "Hezbollah" again announced attacks on Israeli positions.

The intensity of mutual attacks has recently decreased after the Israeli armed forces conducted a large-scale wave of strikes in Lebanon.

The Israel Defense Forces reported that they have destroyed more than 4,300 "Hezbollah" targets in Lebanon and eliminated more than 1,400 militants of the group since the war between Israel and the Iran-backed Shiite group "Hezbollah" began on March 2.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday to American broadcaster NBC that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who expressed intentions to reduce the number of strikes. However, Netanyahu later emphasized that Israel will continue its fight against "Hezbollah" and will not stop until the safety of residents in the northern regions of the country is ensured.

A U.S. State Department representative confirmed that the agency plans to hold talks with Israel and Lebanon next week. It is expected that the main focus will be on the disarmament of "Hezbollah." The group holds significant political influence in Lebanon, although it operates outside of state control. The establishment of peaceful relations between the two countries is also planned to be discussed, according to Netanyahu's office.

Israeli media reported that the talks in Washington will initially take place at the ambassadorial level.

The U.S. and Iran agreed on a two-week ceasefire, which Israel supports; however, the situation remains tense as Israel continues to strike at "Hezbollah" targets in Lebanon.
