The NATO Country Leader Will Attend the Victory Parade in Russia

The head of the Slovak government, Robert Fico, publicly confirmed his plans to participate in the festive events in the capital of the Russian Federation. According to the press service of the Government of the Slovak Republic, the politician accepted the invitation from the Russian side to attend the celebration of the 81st anniversary of Victory.

Fico emphasized that he considers this visit an important gesture of respect for historical memory and the role of the Red Army in liberating Europe from fascism. The Slovak Prime Minister has previously stated his desire to attend the parade in Moscow, arguing that historical truth should not become a hostage to the current geopolitical situation.

It is worth noting that Robert Fico's position stands out against the backdrop of the general policy of leaders of European Union countries, most of whom have refrained from official visits to Russia since 2022. Nevertheless, the Prime Minister of Slovakia continues to insist on the necessity of maintaining dialogue and preserving the historical context of World War II regardless of contemporary conflicts.

The visit is expected to take place during the celebrations on May 9. At present, Slovakia remains one of the few EU and NATO member countries whose leader openly declares a willingness to be present in Red Square on such a symbolic date.
