Hollywood actor George Clooney sharply criticized U.S. President Donald Trump after his statements about the possible use of military force against Iranian infrastructure. In response, the White House made personal attacks against the actor, without commenting on the substance of his remarks.
Clooney spoke at the Dialogues on Talent event in the city of Cuneo (Italy). He emphasized that this is not about political views, but about basic moral principles, reported the Italian agency ANSA.
Addressing the audience, the actor noted: "Some claim that Donald Trump is normal. But if a person says he wants to bring civilization to an end, that is a potential war crime <...> One can hold conservative views, but there must be a line of acceptability that cannot be crossed."
The criticism came after a post by Trump, which appeared a few hours before the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the U.S., Iran, and Israel. Recall that in this message, the American president warned: "A whole civilization could perish tonight, it will never come back. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will."
The U.S. administration responded to the actor's remarks. White House Communications Director Stephen Chung issued a statement criticizing Clooney. The text stated: "The only one committing war crimes is George Clooney, considering his terrible movies and weak acting."
