"They see no other way to stop Putin than to withdraw Ukrainian troops from our territory."
Zelensky is concerned about the weakening of the Trump administration's pressure on Russia. Washington "sees no other way to stop Putin" than to hand over the free territories of Donbas to Russia, Zelensky stated.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump plans to renew pressure on Kyiv to "hand over" all of Donbas to Russia in order to end the war in Ukraine. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Axios.
The publication noted that the head of the Ukrainian state is worried that Washington "sees no other way to stop Putin," despite the fact that he is the aggressor.
"They want to end the war. I am concerned that they see only one way to do this. I am sure that Trump and his team want to end the war. But why should we pay for it? We are not the aggressors.
They see no other way to stop Putin than to withdraw Ukrainian troops from our territory. I am concerned that no one is actually assessing the danger of such a decision for our security," the president emphasized.
Ukraine and Europe are worried about the weakening of the Trump administration's pressure on Russia, the publication writes.
As the U.S. is fully focused on Iran, there is no progress in negotiations regarding Ukraine, the media notes.
The publication reminded that 10 days ago, a high-ranking Ukrainian delegation met with U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Miami. However, the meeting did not lead to any concrete decisions.
As is known, last week Zelensky already stated that the U.S. is offering Kyiv its security guarantees in exchange for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the non-occupied parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Later, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington allegedly did not demand Kyiv to withdraw troops from Donbas in exchange for security guarantees.
After that, Zelensky made another statement, emphasizing that all signals received during the negotiation process indicate that Ukraine will be able to obtain security guarantees from the U.S. only after the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donbas.
