The highest bridge in Iran has been destroyed, said U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday, LETA reports citing AFP.
The B1 bridge in the city of Karaj, Alborz province, was destroyed as a result of a strike that killed eight and injured 95 people, said the deputy governor of the province, Ghodratollah Saei.
Trump posted on social media materials showing smoke over the bridge, located about 35 kilometers southwest of Tehran. He warned that more destruction would follow if Iran did not come to the negotiating table to end the war.
“ The biggest bridge in Iran is collapsing, never to be used again. Much more will follow! It’s time for Iran to make a deal, before it’s too late and there’s nothing left of what could still be a great country!” Trump stated.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on platform X that “strikes on civilian targets, including unfinished bridges, will not make Iranians surrender.”
“This only shows the defeat and moral collapse of a bewildered opponent,” Araghchi wrote.
Iranian state television previously reported on two strikes by the U.S. and Israel on this bridge. The first strike resulted in the deaths of two civilians, and the second was carried out when rescue services arrived to help those affected by the first strike.
According to Iranian media reports, the B1 bridge, which was under construction, was the highest not only in Iran but also in the entire Middle East, with a support height of 136 meters. The length of the bridge was 1050 meters.
